I have an young friend, who worked for Google
Who was experimenting with social software
He was going to start up a social software site
And he gave out 100 invitations to 100 people who were all Silicon Valley nerds —
he gave them each 100 invitations.
I've sent all of mine to Brazil as an experiment, because I felt like...
I've been looking to Brazil for a long time.
Thinking about the network that was Brazil and is Brazil...
You know, it is still insufficiently accomplished this Brazil.
Everything is wired in here
This is a small country your Brazil, with all its millions of people.
It is small because everybody knows everybody.
They know everybody secrets and they know the whole deal, right?
It is a very networked society.
Well, all right...
I am gonna drop 100 invitations of Orkut and see what happens
Like in a super-saturated solution, you know?
You drop a crystal and you drop a crystal and you drop a crystal
And then one day,
you drop a crystal and instead of dissolving, it goes SHAZAM, and all things crystallizes.
Let me tell you about numbers...
Oh but, you know, actually soccer has a lot to do with that,
You know, I mean, and then you got into a competition.
I wasn't counting on that,
but I knew that if I dropped 100 Orkut invitations into this country at that time, something would happen...
And it was so fast...
